Orthopedic Surgeon

Amit Atrey is an orthopedic surgeon who practices at St Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, Specialising in hip and knee surgery, particularly in Minimally Invasive hip Surgery, and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (Rapid recovery), after hip or knee replacement and revision/ redo hip and knee surgeries.

As a Researcher he holds the position of assistant Professor of orthopedics at the University of Toronto.  His interests lie in maximising the survivorship of hip and knee replacement.

Amit trained in the UK, at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Medical School, London and qualified in 2000. After Basic Surgical training he obtained his Masters degree from Imperial College, London. Soon after he started he completed his Specialist Orthopaedic training in the South East Thames region. He joined as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in year 4 of training allowing him to concentrate on hip and knee surgery from then on.

In 2011, Amit spent a year working with world famous hip and knee surgeons, Professors Waddell & Schemitsch in St. Michael’s hospital. Here he did a high number of complex primary and revision (redo) joint replacements. He performed more than 700 cases in this year alone.

Whenever possible he freely advises doctors and physiotherapy clinics, in the interest of improving the communication and services provided by each part of the healthcare chain.

Amit is now accepting referrals in his post at St. Michael’s hospital.
